Star Wars 9: The Rise of Skywalker’s 19 most SHOCKING moments for Rey, Palpatine and MORE

Snoke was a clone
The Rise of Skywalker opened with Kylo Ren discovering Palpatine alive in a Sith hideout of the Unknown Regions. As the new Supreme Leader comes across the now blind emperor, we see Snoke clones in tubs and learn Palpatine created Kylo Ren’s former master.

Chewy’s dead (no he’s not)
Chewbacca was captured, but then Rey thought she accidentally blew him up, only to find he was on another ship.

Rey is Palpatine’s granddaughter
Rey’s parents reveal retconned Rian Johnson’s decision in The Last Jedi for them to be nobodies. Instead, it was Palpatine’s son and daughter-in-law who decided to become nobodies and hide her so the Emperor didn’t kill her.

C-3PO’s memory is lost (no it’s not)
C-3PO’s memory had to be sacrificed so Rey and co could access the Sith translation of the wayfinders’ whereabouts – only for R2-D2 to restore his memory.

Kylo Ren’s dead (no he’s not)
Rey stabbed Kylo Ren with a lightsaber, only for Rey to heal his wound. That was a close one!

Han Solo returns
He may not be able to have become a Force ghost, but Harrison Ford returns as “a memory” to talk to his son Ben and convinced him to turn from the Dark Side to the light

Hux was a spy
General Hux turned out to be the First Order’s spy, but only because he wanted Kylo Ren to lose, not the Resistance to succeed.

Luke Force ghost
Having become one with the Force in The Last Jedi, Luke comes out of the flames on Ahch-To to advise Rey.

General Pryde served Palpatine in the original trilogy
During a conversation with the Emperor, Pryde reveals he served Palpatine in the old wars.

Resistance turns up
All looked lost in the third act, but then suddenly the Resistance was joined by hundreds of ships to fight The Final Order.

Palpatine regenerates
However, Palpatine uses the Force energy of Kylo Ren and Rey to regenerate to his former strength

Force ghost voices
But when all looked lost, Rey listens to the words of encouragement from the dead Jedi of the past, living inside her.

If fans listen carefully they can hear Hayden Christensen’s Anakin Skywalker, Frank Oz’s Yoda, Ewan McGregor and Alec Guinness’ Obi-Wan Kenobi, Liam Neeson’s Qui-Gon Jinn, Samuel L Jackson’s Mace Windu and more.

Palpatine dies
Using the power of the Jedi and Luke and Leia’s lightsabers, Rey destroys Palpatine.

Rey’s dead (no she’s not)
This moment appears to kill Rey, but Kylo Ren revives her with Force energy

Reylo finally happens
In one intimate moment, Reylo finally happens, as the pair briefly kiss.

Kylo Ren’s dead (This time, yes he is)
But reviving Rey came at the cost of Kylo Ren giving up his life.

Leia and Ben Solo become one with the Force
Yet, like the redeemed Anakin, Ben becomes one with the Force, as does Leia who died a few scenes earlier.

Chewy gets his medal
Star Wars fans have always been miffed off that Chewbacca never received a medal after the Battle of Yavin, but now he’s finally received one.

Rey chooses to be a Skywalker, as Luke and Leia Force ghosts look on.
The film ends with Rey burying both Luke and Leia’s lightsabers by Luke’s childhood home on Tatooine.

Rey is then asked by a woman who she is, to which she replied, “Rey Skywalker”, having chosen her family.

Suddenly we see the Force ghosts of both Luke and Leia looking on proudly.
