Impeachment meaning: What is impeachment, what does it mean for Trump?

Only the House of Representatives in the US Congress – which is responsible for passing laws and bills – can impeach the President.

Congress forms different “articles” which summate the accusations levelled towards the President, which are then subject to a debate and a vote.

House Democrats have compiled two articles for impeachment in 2019, which allege the President solicited a foreign government to dig up damaging information on a political rival, and that he obstructed Congress.

Democrats in the House of Representatives are currently in the debate stage, and an “aye” vote from 233 or more of them is required to advance the articles through the House to the Senate.
