Fortnite update 11.31: Server downtime, Patch Notes news, Winterfest start time

Fortnite update 11.31 is arriving later this week and is expected to kick off the new Winterfest event on PS4, Xbox One, PC and Nintendo Switch.

Plenty has already leaked about Winterfest and what gamers will be doing during the holiday season.

And it looks like everything will begin with the launch of a new Fortnite update, following a period of server downtime.

WHEN IS THE NEXT FORTNITE UPDATE?

Epic Games has confirmed that the next Fortnite update will be released later today, December 18.

The new patch will be released following extended downtime, which means the game will be offline for several hours.

According to the latest estimates, Fortnite Battle Royale could be down for around four hours.

Fortnite server downtime is scheduled to begin at 9am, GMT and could last until 1pm, GMT, depending on maintenance progress.

Here’s the latest news shared by Epic Games on the upcoming server maintenance and downtime for Fortnite Battle Royale:

“Season’s greetings. v11.31 arrives tomorrow. Downtime begins at 4 AM ET (0900 UTC). Stay tuned for updates when downtime ends.”

If this schedule proves correct, the new Fortnite Winterfest event should be live by 1pm, GMT, in the UK.

The main appeal of the new Fortnite event will be the chance to unlock lots of free rewards by completing challenges.

Better yet, you can earn treats simply by logging into the game and opening free presents in the lobby.

Dataminers have also discovered plans to unvault different weapons each day during the event.

This includes the Heavy Sniper, the Double Barrel, the Drum Gun, Flint-Knock Pistol and Stink Bombs.

But we won’t know all the details about the new event until after today’s Fortnite update.

Epic Games will likely share a rundown of all the new content and challenges that will be included as part of Winterfest after the server downtime begins.

And there’s a good chance that Epic Games will also post patch notes, although this might not happen until later today.

The dev team behind the hit Battle Royale shooter have only hinted at what’s being planned over the coming weeks.

“With a new year comes new beginnings! Last year we celebrated 14 Days of Fortnite over the holidays,” Epic confirmed earlier this year.

“This year we’ve got even more content for you to unwrap, including new game features, free rewards and a live experience that you won’t want to miss.

“To prepare for all the new holiday-themed updates, we will be extending Chapter 2’s first season into early February. Get ready for winter.”

Leakers have shared news regarding a new lobby screen, as well as a list of new challenges and rewards to unlock on a daily basis.

But fans will have to wait until later today to find out exactly what is being planned for the rest of Fortnite Chapter 2 Season 1 in 2019.
