And they will do battle once more in 2020 with their unbeaten records – Wilder now on 42-0-1 and Fury at 29-0-1 – on the line as well as the WBC heavyweight belt.

Fury’s fellow Brit Joshua owns the division’s three other major belts – the WBO, WBA and IBF – after regaining them from Andy Ruiz Jr this month. 

The 30-year-old put on a boxing clinic in Saudi Arabia to beat his Mexican-American by unanimous decision six months on from Ruiz shocking the world by knocking Joshua out in the seventh round in New York City’s Madison Square Garden.

Joshua has his sights set on taking on Wilder for his WBC belt to realise his dream of being undisputed heavyweight champion of the world – but he has said he would probably rather Fury beat the Alabama-born knockout artists because such a high-profile fight would be easier to arrange with his countryman.
