Netflix has truly hit the jackpot with this, their perfectly-pitched blend of ridiculous rom com cheese and festive cheer.
The Knight Before Christmas is the streaming service’s ultimate offering in a genre that’s fast becoming their strong suit.
Plot-wise? A Medieval knight, Sir Cole (played by Josh Whitehouse) gets transported to a fictional Midwest town where, naturally, Vanessa Hudgens’ Brooke welcomes him (a stranger who is trying to convince everyone that he is, in fact, a knight from Medieval times) into her home without missing a beat.
Suspend disbelief and enter into a wholly bonkers world of Christmas spirit, rom com tropes, and glossy, perfectly snow-blanketed scenes that’s executed with enough wit to elevate the off-the-wall style of movie to the top tier in its own category.

Let It Snow
Another American Christmas rom com, Let It Snow is Netflix’s answer to Love Actually with an emphatically woke 2019 vibe.
An ensemble piece with multiple interconnected relationships, it’s got a heavy dose of the ludicrous tempered by genuinely sweet moments plus bonus Joan Cusack as the resident weird woman with a heart of gold.
Trace the ups and downs of teenage love, friendship and family issues with a group of small-town highschoolers in another fictional Midwest town.
Aimed at (and starring) Generation Z, this one definitely targets a slightly younger demographic than Love Actually.
Of course, Love Actually itself is great for Gen Z, but this avoids the few aspects of Richard Curtis’ classic which haven’t dated so well.

Klaus
Netflix’s touching animation is this season’s best adventure for all the family and delivers the message of kindness in the festive spirit without preaching.
The critically acclaimed comedy follows a lazy postman (Jason Schwartzman) in Smeerensburg who befriends a mysterious woodsman Klaus (JK Simmons).
The heart-warming tale is wonderfully entertaining for kids and adults alike, with some gags tailored for those who are old enough to be tipsy by the time movie hour rolls around on Christmas Day.
A star-studded cast includes Rashida Jones, Norm MacDonald and Joan Cusack (more Cusack!).

The Princess Switch
Netflix is really hitting its stride when it comes to Hallmark-esque holiday movies but the best of their originals are, in fact, even more niche than just that.
Vanessa Hudgens is the platform’s key to Christmas success, with The Princess Switch marking the second on this list to star the former High School Musical favourite in an easy-to-consume and over-the-top festive rom com.
This time, Hudgens plays both female leads; one a “normal girl” type, a baker and one a Duchess, soon to marry a prince (Sam Palladio).
Mashing up a Parent Trap-style switch-up with tried and tested Christmas romance tropes, The Princess Switch, of course, brings happy endings all round, wrapped in a picture perfect package.
N.B. If you’re trying to choose between The Princess Switch and The Christmas Prince (any of the three there have been so far), don’t even question it. This one’s the way to go.
Once you’ve seen and fallen in love with The Princess Switch, it’s worth noting the fun doesn’t stop there as, at some point in the future, we’ll all be treated to Netflix’s The Princess Switch: Switched Again. Confirmed.

The polar opposite to all the obligatory snow, mistletoe and coziness, the reboot of Jumanji is nonetheless great festive viewing. In fact, it’s quite refreshing, by the time you’ve sat through Mary Poppins, eight Harry Potter movies, the Queen’s speech and Elf.
