Philippines earthquake: Nation rocked by massive magnitude-6.8 earthquake

The horrific earthquake saw buildings shake in Davao City, according to social media.

The United States Geological survey (USGS) reported a preliminary magnitude 6.8 struck near Magsaysay, Philippines on Sunday afternoon. 

The quake hit at 2.11pm local time (6.11am GMT)

 

There has been no initial word on damage or injury resulting from the quake. 

However, Twitter users have posted videos of the quake shaking buildings in Davao City. 

The Pacific Tsunami Warning Centre said there is no threat of a tsunami.

The US Geological Survey said that the likelihood of damages and casualties was “low.”

Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (Phivolcs) said that the tremor was of tectonic origin. 

The tremor was also experienced in the town of Matanao, Davao del Sur. 

Residents in the area could expect further aftershocks and damage.

In the last 10 days, there have been no earthquakes with a magnitude higher than 3 in the area.
