Winds of Winter release date IMMINENT? Game of Thrones expert analyses all the evidence

Over the last couple of weeks there have been a few signs that a release date for The Winds of Winter could be announced very soon. However, there’s not been much since and now A Song of Ice and Fire and Game of Thrones expert BrydenBFish has penned a popular Reddit post analysing the evidence for and against George RR Martin’s The Winds of Winter coming out soon.

BrydenBFish wrote: “Last week was an exciting time for the fandom – possibly hinting that TWOW is imminent.

“On the other hand, last week could also be a complete nothing-burger. One of the two, really.

“In that light, and with 2019 winding down, I figure that I’d put on my adult hat and do a post on objectively evaluating the evidence for and against the imminent completion of TWOW in lieu of trolling on twitter – something that I’ve never been accused of.

“And folks, we’ll be taking a close look at everything we know from the past year (or so). Enough chit-chat. Let’s dive in.”

In his first section, the ASOIAF expert looked at the evidence that The Winds of WInter’s release was not imminent.

BryanBFish pointed out how since 2018, Martin has stated how challenging he’s finding writing the novel.

While other projects prove distracting for the author, as he commits to only writing when at home and when he’s doing nothing else that day but penning the book.

After this section, the expert wrote: “So, that’s the recent stuff indicating that TWOW may not be completed any time soon.”

BrydenBFish then moved on to the more recent evidence, including Martin’s personal release deadline of summer 2020, while in October he told author Eve Ewing in an interview that he hoped to have a rush in finishing The Winds of Winter relatively soon.

Most recently there’s been the change of domain ownership for thewindsofwinter.com, the appearance of Martin’s “Next Publications” sidebar on his website and the recent blog silence.

The expert wrote: “In and of itself, it doesn’t indicate much as GRRM has gone radio-silent on occasion and hasn’t popped up with TWOW completed. But taken with the other things, maybe it means something.

“(Personally-speaking, I don’t think this is really anything, but I’d love to be proved wrong. Maybe George is up in his mountain cabin pounding away at TWOW. Or maybe he’s sworn off venting his frustrations on a dreadful NFL Season by both the Jets and Giants. #LamarMVP. Who knows.) So, that’s about everything on the positive side of things.”

It’s worth pointing out that Martin posted on his blog yesterday, which was the first time since November 23.

In BrydenBFish’s conclusion, he divulged: “The conclusion I’d draw from all of this is hope for the best, expect the worst. And be good to each other.

“It’s so f***ing easy in this fandom to feel despair and let that impact how we relate to each other, George and his work. Be positive. Engage. Be happy. And I maintain that one day – maybe soon, maybe later – TWOW will be finished.

“George can relax for a moment. We can enjoy a book together as a fandom. And it’ll be just fine. Everything will be fine.” Let’s hope he’s right.
