Mortal Kombat Finished Production And On-Set Writer Says It Was ‘Insane’

Filming for the new Mortal Kombat movie has officially wrapped claims a new report from Movie Web. Greg Russo, the writer on set, took to his social media account to share the update. News of the film comes shortly after Warner Brothers Studios announced its release schedule.

According to Warner Brothers, the reboot of the iconic video game franchise will hit theaters much sooner than fans initially expected. Rather than hitting theaters on the 21st of March, 2021, the movie will come out on the 15th of January, 2021.

Admittedly, the movie is still a long time away, however, fans can relish in the fact it’s at least coming out a few months sooner. Thus far, the hype around the film has been rife with James Wan acting as the movie’s producer.

Moreover, Greg Russo, the aforementioned writer, took to his Twitter to say the passion for the project demonstrated by other crew members was off the charts. Simon McQuoid will direct the Mortal Kombat reboot which marks his first time sitting in the director’s chair for a full-length film.

It isn’t clear what the movie will explore in terms of its plot, however, fans and writers in the industry have seen uploaded video footage and teaser-images from some of the cast members. As fans of the franchise know, this isn’t the first time the legendary video game has been adapted for a movie.

Mortal Kombat first became a top seller when it hit arcades in 1992. It quickly became one of the most popular games, although, it was criticized by some for its depiction of violence and fighting. The game was released on home consoles not long after and continued to gain serious traction and success.

Furthermore, Movie Web writes that Mortal Kombat has become more popular in the last few years, even though it has had a cult following for years.

Following the latest installment of the game which facilitated additional interest, fans on social media have expressed excitement at the new movie coming out in 2021.
