Conor McGregor seemingly admits he's eyeing Usman vs Covington winner hours before UFC 245

Conor McGregor has admitted he’s got his eye on the winner of UFC 245’s main event. UFC 245 takes place at the T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas early on Sunday morning.

The final pay-per-view card of the year is headlined by the eagerly-anticipated welterweight title grudge match between defending champion Kamaru Usman and public enemy No.1 Colby Covington.

And a little month ahead of his own return to the Octagon, in which he’ll take on Donald Cerrone in a welterweight showdown at UFC 246, McGregor has revealed he’s intrigued by the prospect of fighting the winner of Usman vs Covington.

“Good luck to our athletes competing tonight at UFC 245,” tweeted the former two-division champion.

“I’ve a keen interest in this event. From potential future opponents, to potential future clients, to finally just from a fan standpoint.

“He couldn’t even knock an old dude off a bar stool in the bar.

“So it’s a matchup of jobbers and journeymen and they both should retire.”

McGregor’s clash with Cerrone will be his first outing in over a year, with his last appearance inside the Octagon since his UFC 229 grudge match with Khabib Nurmagomedov, which he lost via fourth round submission.

Defeat to the Russian – his successor at the summit of the lightweight division, left the Irishman without a victory since his historic UFC 205 triumph over Eddie Alvarez – a win which saw him become the promotion’s first simultaneous two-weight world champion.
