A Christmas Prince The Royal Baby: Is it inspired by Meghan Markle? Star reveals truth

A Christmas Prince: The Royal Baby is the third instalment in a series of Christmas movies from Netflix. In the movies, Amber, a journalist, comes to fall in love with Prince Richard of a very fictional country. But some elements of their story, including their marriage and baby, may not be as fictional as it seems.

Since the film came out on Netflix, fans have been flocking to social media to share their theories about all the links to the story of Meghan Markle and Prince Harry.

In the first film, A Christmas Prince, Richard and Amber met in 2017, before they were married in 2018 in the second film, A Christmas Prince: The Royal Wedding.

The most recent film to come out was A Christmas Prince: The Royal Baby, which sees Amber dealing with being a new queen and managing diplomats and royal visits, while also carrying the heir to the throne.

Speaking to Glamour, Rose McIver, the star of the movie, has revealed that, while her character is not based on her, she certainly “followed” the Duchess’ rise to royalty while the film was coming together.

She said: “Certainly by the time the royal wedding film came up, I had a great look at this young woman who’s shaking up patriarchy and old-fashioned values and bringing a modern eye to what can be quite a dated regime sometimes.

“She was an inspiration, and we were all on the edge of our seats, watching to see what she’d wear [to her wedding to Prince Harry]…

“We definitely talked about her. It’s not the same storyline or anything.

“It was more just a nod to and a recognition that it was very timely at the moment to be making a story about a woman who’s going to be in the royal family who maybe challenges some of the norms.”

McIver told Glamour’s Christopher Rosa she did not base her character on Meghan, or even research Meghan as part of her work, however she did watch the way she has been in the public eye.

She added: “I was very curious and followed along with the news to see how things were panning out…

“A relationship can be hard at many times but even harder when you’re scrutinised by everybody around you.

“I’m very grateful that I don’t have a relationship that’s crazy out-there in the public eye or anything. I think those people are up for a very challenging journey.”

What is A Christmas Prince: The Royal Baby about?

The first film, A Christmas Prince, shows Amber (Rose McIver), a magazine journalist sent to Aldovia to cover the coronation of the nation’s new prince, Richard (Ben Lamb.)

Amber’s desperation to become a renowned journalist leads her to snooping around the palace and she is mistaken for the new tutor of Emily, the young princess.

In the end, she and Richard become closer and closer while his family are scheming to oust him as the next king – until Amber is able to save the day and prove he is the rightful heir.

Her magazine piece is eventually rejected and she starts to blog about her experiences with Richard, ultimately leading to their love becoming known when he proposes to her.

In the second film, which takes place a year after the first film, the pair are trying to plan their wedding but Amber is overwhelmed by royal protocol.

In the midst of this, Amber and Simon, Richard’s cousin, become enraptured by a case of fraud and investigate, until eventually Amber is given a blessing to have the wedding she wants which blends tradition with modernity.

The final film in the current trilogy is, of course, the birth of a baby, a royal baby in fact.

Set another year after the events of the second film, Amber and Richard, now King and Queen, are preparing for the birth of their first child, while also meeting the King and Queen of Penglia.

Their plan is to sign a historic treaty between the two countries which declares peace between the nations.

But when the treaty goes missing, the pair must try to find it and help their country to survive before the baby is born.
