Susan Boyle: ‘I got a second take’ BGT legend makes embarrassing interview gaffe

Susan Boyle, 58, explained she was once asked what her favourite holiday song was when she was in the United States, but got the term confused and didn’t think the interviewer meant Christmas. The mix-up caused the Britain’s Got Talent favourite to make a hilarious blunder and they had to record the question again.

When asked what her favourite Christmas song was, she spilled to Edinburgh News: “My favourite Christmas song is White Christmas.”

“Whenever I’m asked this question I giggle to myself as the first time I went to New York in 2009 to promote my album I Dreamed A Dream, I was doing an interview and they asked me what my favourite holiday song was,” Susan explained.

“Well I didn’t know back then that holiday is what they call Christmas so I thought they meant a summer holiday song, so off the top of my head I just said teeny weeny yellow polka dot bikini, well the confused looks on their faces and my team off camera on their knees crying with laughter.”

Susan said due to her mistake of naming Brian Hyland’s song instead of a festive hit, they had to record her answer again.

She said: “Luckily it was pre-recorded, so by the time we all finished howling with laughter, I got to do a second take.”

The Britain’s Got Talent 2009 runner-up also discussed her perfect Christmas Day to the publication.

Susan said she spends the big day surrounded by her friends and family having “one too many Christmas dinners”.

The singer said the “sheer joy” on the children’s faces when they open their presents is “what it’s all about”.

Meanwhile, Susan will be travelling to Vatican City this weekend, where she will be performing in the 27th edition of the Christmas Concert.

The Scot will be joined at the event by Lionel Richie, Bonnie Tyler and many Italian singers.

A post about the event was shared on Susan’s Twitter and Instagram accounts today which said starring in the concert is a “dream come true” for her.

“Susan is performing at the Pope’s annual Christmas concert @ConcertoNatale in the Vatican on Saturday alongside @LionelRichie and @BonnieTOfficial.

“To say she is thrilled is an understatement! It’s a dream come true.”

One fan praised: “What a great concert it will be. Have been to the Vatican and wish I could be there for it. Love Susan’s music.”

Another gushed: “She has the most gorgeous voice. The Pope won’t be disappointed.”

“A great dream come true for Susan your voice is amazing,” added a third.

Susan will be showing off her vocal skills to thousands more people next year as she hits the road on her own tour.

The TEN tour will feature the star’s greatest hits and some new ones when she tours the UK, starting in Dundee, Scotland.

Speaking about the tour, she said: “I’m thrilled to be coming back on tour after four years and starting in Scotland, one of the best audiences in the world.

“I am also excited to be able to perform songs that you wouldn’t necessarily expect from me. I like to surprise, I left the world surprised ten years ago and I want to surprise my fans again.”
