A Christmas Prince The Royal Baby: Did you spot the 3 Meghan Markle references?

Netflix is a great place for Christmas obsessives to find new movies to enjoy. From new favourites to franchises, there’s a Christmas movie for everyone – including A Christmas Prince. With the third instalment out on Netflix, however, fans are certain there is a link between the characters on screen and some other famous royals.

A Christmas Prince: The Royal Baby is a romcom released on Netflix on December 5.

The story follows two other movies, A Christmas Prince and A Christmas Prince: The Royal Wedding, both of which chronicle the romance of Amber and her prince, Richard of Aldovia.

Amber (Rose McIver) is a magazine journalist sent to Aldovia to cover the coronation of the nation’s new prince, Richard (Ben Lamb.)

Amber’s desperation to become a renowned journalist leads her to snooping around the palace and she is mistaken for the new tutor of Emily, the young princess.

In the end, she and Richard become closer and closer while his family are scheming to oust him as the next king – until Amber is able to save the day and prove he is the rightful heir.

Her magazine piece is eventually rejected and she starts to blog about her experiences with Richard, ultimately leading to their love becoming known when he proposes to her.

In the second film, which takes place a year after the first film, the pair are trying to plan their wedding but Amber is overwhelmed by royal protocol.

In the midst of this, Amber and Simon, Richard’s cousin, become enraptured by a case of fraud and investigate, until eventually Amber is given a blessing to have the wedding she wants which blends tradition with modernity.

The final film in the current trilogy is, of course, the birth of a baby, a royal baby in fact.

Set another year after the events of the second film, Amber and Richard, now King and Queen, are preparing for the birth of their first child, while also meeting the King and Queen of Penglia.

Their plan is to sign a historic treaty between the two countries which declares peace between the nations.

But when the treaty goes missing, the pair must try to find it and help their country to survive before the baby is born.

Despite the slightly dramatic storylines, some fans have spotted a few reasons why these movies may be pretty similar to the story of Prince Harry and Meghan Markle.

First of all, the story of a royal meeting and ending up married to someone outside of the royal realm is certainly part of Harry and Meghan’s story, and is developed in the story of Amber and Richard.

Fans noticed the timeline of Harry and Meghan’s relationship is very similar to Richard and Amber’s, taking to social media to share their excitement.

One fan wrote on Twitter: “Can we just all agree Netflix’s A Christmas Prince story is basically a retelling of Harry and Meghan?

“They literally follow the timeline. Their meetup and engagement in 2017, their wedding in 2018 and now a Royal Baby in 2019.”

As well as this, Amber and Richard explore hypno-birthing techniques and want a “normal” life for their baby, the former of which is something Harry and Meghan were reported to have done by Vanity Fair.

Finally, the birth of their baby takes place after they have refused to reveal the gender, and it is Richard who announces the news followed by a photocall.

This was also the same for Harry and Meghan, so they certainly may have taken some real life inspiration when putting the story of the film together.
