Man Utd hero Gary Neville fires warning to Ole Gunnar Solskjaer despite Man City win

Manchester United hero Gary Neville has warned Ole Gunnar Solskjaer not to expect many more performances like the Red Devils showed at the Etihad. United were 2-1 winners over rivals Manchester City, putting in a strong and determined performance.

Marcus Rashford and Anthony Martial gave United a 2-0 lead inside the first half hour.

The next 60 minutes belonged to Manchester City but United held firm to make it six points from six.

This win followed on from victory over Tottenham in midweek and has moved United up to fifth in the Premier League.

But Neville does not necessarily believe this is a corner turned and has warned United are unlikely to be consistently strong.

Speaking on Sky Sports, Neville said: “There has been many times over the last five or six years where it has been painful and days like this have been few and far between.

“The players have taken a lot of criticism and rightly so. The performances are nowhere near good enough but that’s a different level today, they’ve shown what they can do.

“I still think there’ll be inconsistency because they’re young and they’re not performing week in, week out at the same level.

“But what it does give you is some hope, that there’s something there that can give that level of performance.”

Though Red Devils boss Solskjaer was pleased with the showing his side put on on Saturday evening.

He said: “We’ll remember this one, we look so dangerous when we get he ball and go forward against arguably the best team in the world.

“They are an unbelievable team team and to get a result and defend like we did and create as many chances…we should have been three or four up but for some good goalkeeping.

“It’s hard to take the ball off them. They can football teams to death but with the pace and threat we have, we look dangerous every time we go forward.

“It does not matter where you win the ball it’s that you are positive when you get it.”

“The team shape was spot on, but individually they had to dig deep against some of the best players in the world. That’s part of the game. It was a memorable night for Aaron [Wan Bissaka] who has been unbelievable since coming to club.

“You defend so well but you are disappointed that you concede on a corner, which is not their strength but I can’t complain to much.

“David de Gea is the best goalkeeper in the world. We’ve expected high standards off him and he is getting back to his best.”
