First Lady Melania Trump’s relationship with Vice President Mike Pence’s wife, Karen Pence, has been revealed as rocky, to say the least. In a new biography, ‘Free, Melania: The Unauthorised Biography’, CNN Correspondent Kate Bennett gives the first behind-the-scenes look at President Donald Trump’s wife. According to Ms Bennett, there is something “strange and telling” about the connection between the two most important women in America today.
The biographer points to a trip to Corpus Christi, Texas in the aftermath of Hurricane Harvey, as a key example.
As she tells it, Ms Bennett remembers “watching someone who looked a lot like Karen Pence, moving from the section ahead of ours, typically where aide and advance teams sit, and head toward the back lavatory”.
The CNN journalist speculated that this perhaps meant that Mrs Pence’s place among aides was because the First Lady had not invited her to the spacious private cabin at the front of the plane.
It could also be that Mrs Pence didn’t accept an invitation.

Ms Bennett said that either possibility struck her as “strange and telling” about their relationship.
After the flight, the reporter noted that Mrs Trump, who stands at 5’11, didn’t remove her four-inch heels when the two landed.
She towered “almost comically” over the Second Lady, who was in flats.
Ms Bennett wrote that this “confirmed” her suspicions the two weren’t close.
Despite the accounts, the two women have presented a united and friendly front in recent months.
They came together in late 2019 in visits to schoolchildren and military families.
They also joined the spouses of several Cabinet members at the Red Cross Hall of Service in Washington DC.
They were pictured assembling Red Cross care kits for troops overseas.
Both Mrs Trump and Mrs Pence thanked service members for their service to the country.
