Melania Trump gets in the festive spirit in a red chequered Gabriela Hearst Trench coat

Melania Trump got into the Christmas spirit after attending the annual national Christmas tree lighting ceremony in Washington, DC yesterday with her husband, Donald Trump. The former model was pictured in a stylish Gabriela Hearst Trench coat that embodied the festive times.

Hearst is one of first daughter Ivanka Trump’s favourite designers to wear, though Melania has worn her designs from time to time.

For the Christmas tree lighting, Melania opted for an effortlessly glamorous makeup that consisted of heavily lashed eyelids, contoured, bronzed and rouged cheeks – that provided Melania with a warm glow in the cheeks – smokey eye shadow and matte pink lipstick.

The First Lady of America appeared to be sporting a freshly trimmed hairstyle with the length appearing to be slightly shorter than usual, her fringe also appeared to be more cropped and defined.

Melania kept her caramel coloured locks down in a natural wake on top of her shoulders.

She was joined on stage by husband, President Donald Trump who, for the occasion, opted for a dark trench coat, black trousers, a crisp white shirt, and a striking blue tie.

After the event, Melania re-tweeted a video from her husband which showed the lights being switched on and a band playing while the President gave a speech.

In the speech, Trump said: “In 1923, President Calvin Coolidge lit the first national Christmas tree.

“Christians give thanks that the son of God came into the world to save humanity.

“Jesus Christ inspires us to love one another with hearts full of generosity and grace.

“As one grateful nation, we praise the joy of family, the blessings of freedom and the miracle of Christmas.

“On behalf of Melania and our entire family, merry Christmas and God bless you all.

“Thank you very much. Merry Christmas everybody!”

However, Melania did not receive the most welcoming response on Twitter to her Christmas update.

Critics of the First Lady decided to comment on the post to share their frustration.

One user said: “Too bad there’s so many children in cages tonight while you have ‘fun’.”

Another said: “Nice warm coat you’re wearing.

“Too bad the child that died from the flu while in detention couldn’t have one to keep him warm and alive.”

Another user called Dixie said: “Hopefully that was your last Christmas there.”

Sean responded: “Enjoy! It’ll be your last one.”

However, other Twitter users defended the FLOTUS and decided to celebrate with her.

One user said: “Thank you for bringing class to the White House!”

Another said: “Merry Christmas to you and yours. Thank you for the grace and elegance you bring to the White House and to the whole country.”
