Arsenal player ratings vs Brighton: More embarrassment as Ljungberg fails to lift spirits

Arsenal were beaten by Brighton after another sloppy night at the Emirates with Freddie Ljungberg appearing to have had little impact on the side so far, following up the draw with Norwich with a defeat to Brighton. Arsenal did manage to pull on back after going behind but were then dealt a knockout blow in the 80th minute.

There were the same defensive issues and there was the same lack of control in midfield as Arsenal followed the draw with Norwich with a defeat to Brighton.

Adam Webster scored the opener after 36 minutes before Alexandre Lacazette levelled it up five minutes after the break.

From there Arsenal looked the more likely to win it but it was Neal Maupay who headed home to seal three points.

The defeat leaves Arsenal down in 10th and now 10 points behind Chelsea in fourth as they search for a new manager to replace Unai Emery.

Arsenal player ratings

Arsenal (4-3-3)

Leno 6

Made a string of decent stops before Brighton eventually took the lead. Commanding from then on.

Bellerin 6

Still not 100% but was decent going forward and caused chaos with a couple of moves after the equaliser. Poor for the winner though

David Luiz 5

Not the commanding defender Arsenal hoped for when they signed him this summer. Had a goal disallowed for offside.

Sokratis 5

Back in after being dropped at the weekend. Could be back out for the next game after another below par showing.

Kolasinac 6

Committed as ever but quality still lacking. Subbed for Tierney late on.

Torreira 5

Struggled in a slightly different role, and did little to suggest he should be starting more often.

Xhaka 5

His lack of agility exposed by Brighton and did little going forward.

Willock 3

Miserable night for the youngster. Subbed after 45 minutes.

Ozil 6

Not match sharp but a better display in the second half showed a glimpse of what he can do with the assist for the equaliser

Aubameyang 6

Stuck on the wing and largely ineffective. Argued with Willock in the first half but the later was hooked.

Lacazette 7

Took his goal really well and was Arsenal’s main threat.

Subs: Pepe on for Willock 46 6

Arsenal offered with the Ivorian on, but still couldn’t rescue the result a second time.

Unused subs: Chambers, Nelson, Martinez, Guendouzi.
