Melania Trump embarrassment as FLOTUS’ 'boiled sweet' NATO reception outfit mocked online

The First Lady, and wife of US President Donald Trump, donned a bright yellow Valentino cape coat, with a fuchsia top underneath with matching heels, to keep warm from the cold London weather. Her choice of clothing received a tirade of criticism after images of the First Lady’s attire appeared online. Writing for the Daily Beast, Alaina Demopoulos said: “Like many of the First Lady’s outfits, this one is a real head scratcher.”

She added: “My British editor, Tim Teeman, says the look reminds him of the boiled sweet ‘rhubarb and custard’.”

Melania’s £4600 coat did not go unnoticed as netizens took to social media to make jibes at the First Lady.

Jim Malazita wrote on Twitter: “Looks like she is auditioning for a super-villain role in an upcoming Marvel movie.”

Leena tweeted: “There is a certain dress etiquette for meeting the Queen. Turning up looking like a tropical bird that lost its way to the Amazon is not it. She looks silly.”

One Twitter user wrote: “Who’s in charge of apparel? They need to sign off on the s**t she wears, she’s representing us and we don’t like it.”

Bridget added: “The woman has the world at her fingertips and can get anything she wants and she chooses the ugliest clothing.

“FLOTUS, leave the clothing decisions to the professionals. Fugly!”

Karl Vootstallen questioned whether Melania’s coat was inspired by Sesame Street, sharing a picture of “Big Bird” with the post.

Despite the strong criticism of Melania’s wardrobe, many fans were quick to defend the First Lady.
