The Irishman Is A Hit — But Netflix Culture Wants To Make It A Series Due To 3 Hour Run Time

There has not been a critically acclaimed crime mob movie in quite some time. Netflix dropped The Irishman just in time for Thanksgiving weekend and the masterpiece is expected to sweep award season next year.

Directed by Martin Scorsese, Hollywood royalty Robert De Niro, Joe Pesce, and Al Pacino star in the story about a 1950s truck driver getting involved with a notorious Pennsylvania crime family.

Since premiering last week, The Irishman has debuted to rave reviews.

‘It’s the ultimate fusing of Scorsese’s two sides… And even though it takes a while to get there, the movie is a masterpiece, one made by a man counting down his own years as if they were rosary beads,’ said Ty Burr of the Boston Globe.

‘You might watch The Irishman on your TV, iPad, or smartphone. That viewing experience might not be what was originally intended. Look closer and regardless of the screen size and shape, you’ll see a rarity in cinema-a masterpiece,’ explained Tim Brennan of About Bolder.

‘The Irishman is a true cinematic masterpiece. De Niro, Pacino, and Pesci bring out their best performances in years under the masterful directing eye of Martin Scorsese,’ added Comicbook Debate.

There is a catch 22 when it comes to this era of binge-watching. Viewers don’t mind digesting a full season of a show in 5 hours but to follow one central storyline for 3 hours is somehow different.

Fans love everything about the film except its run time. One Netflix user has decided to break it down into a series.

Swedish-based entertainment journalist Alexander Dunerfors shared an illustration that separates the cinematic journey into 4 episodes.

It may be a blessing in disguise that Scorsese chose to house his latest creation on Netflix instead of the traditional movie theater because otherwise, he may have missed a specific audience demographic.
