Transfer news LIVE: Solskjaer desperate for Man Utd signing, Arsenal offer, Chelsea plan

Pochettino to Man Utd/Arsenal development

Manchester United have been dealt a major body blow after the Sunday Express has learnt Mauricio Pochettino would have to repay Tottenham his £12.5million pay-off if he takes another Premier League job this season.

Pochettino and his coaching team pocketed more than £20m between them when they were axed by Spurs and replaced by Jose Mourinho two weeks ago.

But thanks to a clause inserted into his contract by Tottenham chairman Daniel Levy he will have to give it back if he moves to any Premier League clubs who may come calling before the summer.

Pochettino will have the pick of any top European jobs that come up after leading Spurs to four successive top-four finishes in the Premier League and the Champions League final last season.

He is also on the wish list of many Arsenal fans after Unai Emery cleared out his office at the Emirates Stadium on Friday morning after 18-months in charge.

Man Utd plan

Manchester United are keen to sign Red Bull Salzburg striker Erling Haaland in the January transfer window but much could depend on what happens with Paul Pogba.

Mino Raiola represents both players and for Ole Gunnar Solskjaer to sign Haaland he may end up having to sell Pogba.

Solskjaer is determined to land Haaland but Raiola could play a key role in forcing the sale of Pogba to allow the transfer for the starlet to go through.

At the moment, the super-agent is believed to want the teenager to join Serie A giants Juventus.

Allegri makes Arsenal decision

Arsenal will not be naming Massimiliano Allegri as their new permanent boss after handing Freddie Ljungberg the head coach role on a temporary basis.

Unai Emery lost his job this week after a run of seven games without a win, and former Juventus boss Allegri was said to be one of the club’s main candidates to replace him.

Italian publication Gazzetta have now revealed that the 52-year-old gave a firm ‘no’ when the approach was made.

The ex-Milan manager is said to have game the same answer when he was approached by Tottenham after Mauricio Pochettino lost his job, which detailed why he remains unavailable.

Chelsea want two stars

Chelsea are interested in signing Wilfried Zaha and Jadon Sancho once their transfer ban is lifted.

Willian and Pedro are out of contract at Stamford Bridge in the summer which would leave Frank Lampard with just Christian Pulisic and Callum Hudson-Odoi as first-team flankers.

Lampard regularly plays two wide men in his preferred 4-3-3 and 4-2-3-1 formations and, according to The Telegraph, Zaha and Sancho are targets.

Crystal Palace warded off interest in Zaha in the summer, even rejecting a players-plus-cash offer worth over £52m from Everton.

The Ivorian ostensibly wants to leave Selhurst Park but is contracted at the club until June 2023.

Chelsea are aware that Sancho could leave Borussia Dortmund in the summer following what has so far been a controversial campaign for the teenager.

Liverpool signing backed

Liverpool hero Jamie Carragher has told Jurgen Klopp to sign a new forward in the the January transfer window. The Sky Sports pundit also discussed the idea of Borussia Dortmund star Jadon Sancho heading to Anfield.

He told Viasport: “I think Liverpool still lack one player which is an attacking player to really support the front three and almost make it like a front four.

“At the moment there’s still a big difference when one of the front three don’t play.

“We saw that at the weekend again when Salah was out – that time Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain played in the front three and that didn’t work. We’ve seen [Divock] Origi that doesn’t work.

“Maybe there’s talk of a man in the Bundesliga coming to England from Borussia Dortmund, maybe he’s someone who Liverpool may be looking at in Sancho who a lot of other Premier League clubs are looking at.

“There has been some great signings for Liverpool in the past [in January]. You think of [Virgil] van Dijk, Luis Suarez, Daniel Agger was a great player for Liverpool, Daniel Sturridge is another one.

“I would like to see an attacking player come in someone with a bit more quality, maybe someone who could help them in the coming months going forward.

“I don’t think it’s an area which Klopp really looks at but I would expect it to be a really big summer for Liverpool especially considering they didn’t sign anyone last summer.”
