Piers Morgan hits out at 'gutless' Boris Johnson and Jeremy Corbyn for ITV Debate absence

Piers Morgan, 54, was less than impressed with Boris Johnson and Jeremy Corbyn’s absence from the ITV Election Debate tonight.

The Good Morning Britain host fumed about their failure to turn up to the debate just 10 days before the general election is set to take place.

Piers spoke out about the surprising situation in view of his 6.9 million Twitter followers and branded both the Labour leader and the Prime Minister “gutless”.

The outspoken journalist also suggested the politicians appear to be “hiding from voters”.

He fumed: “Really pathetic that neither @BorisJohnson nor @jeremycorbyn turned up for tonight’s #itvdebate.

“Ten days before the Election & they’re hiding from voters. Gutless.”

Fans took to the comments section of Piers’ post to share their thoughts about the issue.

One person wrote: “@jeremycorbyn hasn’t been hiding he has been doing plenty, not sure about Boris, anyone seen him?”

Another Twitter user argued: “It is a waste of time! Voters are sick of these so called debates. Boris did Marr today proves my point. The hosts are taking over & want to sit in both chairs.”

A third commented: “The problem is that there are too many of these TV ‘debates’. The important one is on @BBC next Friday with Nick Robinson – the Corbyn-Johnson head to head. The rest is just noise… and tonight pitched against Strictly!”

A fourth fan disagreed with Piers and quizzed the star: “Why would Boris waste his time?”

The leaders of all major parties were invited to take part in the televised debate.

Jo Swinson appeared for the Liberal Democrats, Nigel Farage spoke for the Brexit Party, while Scottish first minister Nicola Sturgeon represented the SNP.

Labour and the Conservatives were represented by shadow justice minister Richard Burgon and chief secretary of the Treasury Rishi Sunak.
