Arsenal declaration from Brendan Rodgers resurfaces offering hope he will quit Leicester

Brendan Rodgers is among the candidates to replace Unai Emery at Arsenal and there is hope that the Leicester boss could be tempted by the Emirates hot-seat, even if it means they wait until the end of the season to acquire him.

It is not the first time the Gunners have looked to land Rodgers though.

During his time at Celtic, he was linked with the position after Arsene Wenger announced that he would step down from the club.

Rodgers’ response to the speculation, suggests it’s a position that would most definitely tempt him should he be tabled a formal offer.

He said in April 2018: “I’ve got huge respect for Arsenal as a club.

“When I started my coaching career Arsene was just coming into the club and I learned so much in that period as a young coach watching him and watching his dignity and class and how he dealt with everything, so it’s a club I’ve got huge respect for.

Yet after the game, Rodgers appeared to leave the door open on a move to Arsenal, confirming that he has got a release clause in his contract which would free him from his position at the club.

“There probably is [a clause] in most manager’s contracts,” Rodgers told Sky Sports.

“It is all hypothetical. My focus is very much with Leicester.

“I made a change nine months ago and I have been very happy since I came here. We still have a lot of work to do.

“Most manager’s contracts will have something in but my focus is here.”

Rodgers has jumped ship before though, leaving Celtic mid-season earlier this year to replace Claude Puel at Leicester.

The decision has sparked fears that he could do the same to the 2015/16 Premier League winners, and today’s comments are hardly reassuring.

According to the Daily Star, Rodgers privately regards the Arsenal role as his dream job, sources close to the manager have claimed.

It’s believed that the former Liverpool boss is currently caught in a dilemma with his side currently some 13 points clear of Arsenal in the table and on course for a top four finish.
