Downton Abbey: Phyllis Logan brought THIS big change to original plan for Mr Hughes

Phyllis Logan has played Downton Abbey’s housekeeper across the series and now stars in this year’s movie. And it turns out she’s more like Mrs Hughes than you might think.

She told The National: “Well, I can be a bit snippy, a bit terse. But only to my nearest and dearest.

“She was written down in the script, of course, but I like to think I gave her the legs to run.

“But when you play a character there are always elements of you in that person.

“You can’t completely step away from yourself.”

Logan added: “She was of a different type.

“She knew people were thrown into a caste system but had to make the best of it.”

Meanwhile, Downton Abbey 2 is in the works, so it looks like Logan will be back as Mrs Hughes sooner rather than later.

Producer Gareth Neame has admitted that conversations are happening about a sequel.

Neame told The Hollywood Reporter: “We’re having those conversations.

“We’re working on what the story is, and when we might be able to make it.

“But it’s the same as the first time around: We have to try to get everyone back together again.

“And that was very challenging.”
