Andy Murray now mellow man after fatherhood and hip surgery, dad says

Will Murray said the three-time Grand Slam winner had discovered how to be happy without tennis and was now a “different guy”. Murray, 32, famed for his outbursts in action, is back playing after a hip resurfacing operation and he and wife Kim had their third child, a boy called Teddy, last month. Andy Murray: Resurfacing, out yesterday on Amazon, shows the injury’s impact on his family and game. Interviewed for the documentary, Will, 65, said: “I think he realises there is a lot more happening in his world rather than tennis because he has been away from it for a few months.

“He’s got a young family and I think he’s going to enjoy that and I think he will enjoy them coming to see him play.

“If he can get to play singles again to the same level I think you will find a different guy.

“I do think he is more relaxed. I see a young man who looks happy with himself and happy in his life.”

Murray is seen playing with daughters Sophia, three, and Edie, two, at home in Oxshott, Surrey, and dancing to kids’ song Baby Shark.

He also revealed that tennis helped him cope in the aftermath of the Dunblane school massacre and with his parents’ divorce.

The Scot was in the school at the time of the shootings and knew killer Thomas Hamilton.

He says in a voice message for director Olivia Cappuccini: “You asked me a while ago why tennis was important to me.

“My feelings towards tennis is that it’s an escape for me in some ways.”

Last week Murray admitted chronic hip pain had left him feeling “down” and affected his relationship with Kim, 31.
