Frozen 2: Exciting revelation about Elsa's 'GIRLFRIEND' as star speaks out

***WARNING: MAJOR FROZEN 2 SPOILERS AHEAD***

Frozen 2 came out last week, bringing a long six-year wait to an end for fans of the Disney phenomenon. Since the first Frozen was released back in 2013, there has been swirling interest and speculation around Elsa’s (Idina Menzel) love life, sparked largely by her instant LGBTQ+ anthem, Let It Go.

Fans have been desperate to find out if Elsa would come out and perhaps get a girlfriend in Frozen 2, eagerly awaiting the release of the sequel to see whether filmmakers would bring their hopes to life on screen.

Back in 2016, there was even a huge viral campaign, #GiveElsaAGirlfriend, which begged directors Jennifer Lee and Chris Buck to do just that.

Now Frozen 2 is out, though, it’s clear all the campaigning and begging didn’t pay off, as Elsa remains resolutely single throughout.

Instead of delving into her love life, the sequel focused, once again, on Elsa’s struggle to come to terms with her identity, this time following her on her search for the source of her magical powers.

However, it seems there is still hope for Elsa getting a girlfriend in the future.

In an interview with Refinery29, actress Menzel dropped the bombshell that the character’s sexuality could be explored in another sequel.

Asked about Elsa and romance, she emphasised the focus on the other important aspects of the character.

“I’m not trying to avoid your question, but what’s important to realise is that it’s not about romantic love — she’s never been about that,” she said.

Meanwhile, director Lee explained why they had chosen to steer clear of giving Elsa a girlfriend in the second movie, telling the publication the filmmakers had done in-depth perosynlityt tests for all of the characters.

“It was saying she’s just not ready for a relationship,” she said. “And we weren’t going to force something.

“She’s tell us where to go. And she told us, ‘I’ve got to know the origins of my powers.’”

Lee also said: “Ultimately, Frozen’s about the power of all kinds of love over fear, and that resonated and that means everything.”

When it comes to the possibility of Elsa finding love in the future, Lee told Entertainment Tonight: “I don’t know if it’ll fit in the future. We haven’t asked that question, and I’m not stretching past Frozen 2 about what happens to these characters in their lives! But it’s just not where she was now.”

Elsewhere, Frozen producer Peter Del Vecho agreed with Lee on the second movie not being about Elsa’s romantic life, telling Radio Times: “That’s just not part off the journey of the story we’re telling.

“Her journey isn’t a romantic one. It’s really trying to discover who she is and what her purpose is.

“And the core relationship, just like in the first film, is between Anna and Elsa,” he added. “We wanted that again to be the strong relationship of the family in the movie.”

Frozen 2 is in cinemas now.
