Former Arsenal captain Granit Xhaka could return to the first-team for the Europa League clash with Eintracht Frankfurt, according to Unai Emery. The Switzerland midfielder was dropped as the Gunners skipper after he hit back at fans booing him when substituted in a game at the Emirates.

“He’s in the group and has the possibility to play tomorrow,” the under-fire Spaniard said.

“I hope every supporter supports the team.” He added: “Xhaka’s comeback is going to be important to us.”

Meanwhile, Emery has asked the fans and players to connect knowing he is fighting to save his job at the Emirates.

“I know some teams come here and are fearless against us and we need to be strong for our supporters but first we need to reconnect with them,” he said.

“But really, my wish is tomorrow that the supporters and every supporter helps the team because we need them.”

Arsenal will qualify for the last 32 of the Europa League if they can secure a point against the German opponents.

They will have to do it without without Dani Ceballos as the midfielder recovers from a hamstring injury.

Full-backs Hector Bellerin and Sead Kolasinac will face late fitness tests, also on hamstring problems.

Arsenal won the first match between the two 3-0 thanks to goals from Joe Willock, Bukayo Saka and Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang.

Shkodran Mustafi is expected to start for the Gunners and he has talked about his future at the club.

“I am still here,” he said.

“I am a player of Arsenal and I’ve got a contract with Arsenal for one and a half more years.

“I have always said that if there is going to be something where it suits me and if there is going to be something where I want to make a next step then I am open to it and I am open to talk.”
