Southern Charm Star Kathryn Dennis Plans New Holiday Traditions After Death Of Her Mother & Nasty Custody Battle With Thomas Ravenel

Southern Charm star Kathryn Dennis has had a difficult 2019. Not only did she battle her ex Thomas Ravenel in court for custody of their two children, Kensie, 5, and Saint, 4. But, the 28-year-old’s mom – Allison Calhoun Dennis – died in August at the age of 59 after an “extended illness.” Now, Dennis has decided it’s time to make some new family traditions for the upcoming holiday season.

Dennis told Page Six during BravoCon that she was trying to make new traditions now that her mom is gone.

“So we are going to go on the Polar Express, there’s a Polar Express thing in North Carolina where the kids get to wear pajamas and you actually get to ride on the train. We’re going to start doing that every year,” said Dennis.

In addition to the Polar Express, Dennis is going to carry on her mom’s tradition of hosting Christmas. The Southern Charm star revealed that she was looking for a new home to buy next year, and when she finds the right place she wants to settle down and stay there.

When she finds her dream home, Dennis wants to host Christmas every year because that’s what her mom did, and she wants to carry on that tradition.

Dennis hasn’t had much luck yet with her house hunting. She said that it’s difficult to find something in Charleston that isn’t “ridiculously expensive” and still needs work. She does love that everything in the city is much older, but she’s also “trying to save a buck.”

In addition to losing her “best friend” this year, Dennis was in court a lot during 2019 battling Ravenel for custody of their kids. After a year-long battle that kept getting nastier by the day, the former couple finally resolved their issues and reached an agreement.

Dennis said it feels like a huge weight has been lifted now that her custody battle is over, and it feels good to actually be moving forward.

“Just want to let my fans hear from me officially that Thomas and I have resolved all matters related to our children,” Dennis wrote on Twitter earlier this month. “I believe that this joint custody arrangement is in our children’s best interests. Happy to move forward. Thank y’all for all of your patience, support & love.”

Kathryn Dennis and Thomas Ravenel agreed to share joint legal and physical custody of their children, while Ravenel has “primary legal custody.”
