Leeds star Jack Harrison explains how Marcelo Bielsa's tactics were key to beating Reading

Leeds United returned to the top of the Championship after beating Reading 1-0 at the Madejski Stadium on Tuesday night.

The Whites left it late to score the only goal the game as Jack Harrison’s header found the back of the net in 87th minute.

Despite playing away Leeds dominated possession and created double the amount of chances Reading had although once again struggled to get their opportunities on target.

Both teams finished the game with two shots on target, but it was a quick counter attack that led to the goal which sealed the victory for Leeds.

Reading had a free-kick saved and in the aftermath Harrison found team-mate Stuart Dallas on the edge of their own box.

The Northern Irishman then picked out substitute Ezgjan Alioski with a long cross-field pass.

The North Macedonia international continued dribbling towards the Reading penalty box before laying the ball off to Helder Costa, who whipped the ball into the box.

Harrison, who had started the move, then got on the end of the deflected cross to head the ball home with three minutes left in the game.

And Harrison, who is on a season-long loan from Manchester City, credited the tactics of manager Marcelo Bielsa after the game.

“It was a tough match, but we knew how important it was coming here and getting the three points,” said Harrison.

“We had a game plan and we stuck to it, the team worked hard and we ultimately got the three points we deserved.

“We had some opportunities where we were a bit unfortunate here and there, but we know if we stick to our game plan we have enough talent in the team to score goals.

“That’s what we’ve been doing in the last few games, we know how important it is to get the three points.

“As a squad we are fit enough to play out the games and get these last minute goals because of how fit the team is and we continue to work hard.”

And in his post-match interview Bielsa admitted that he thought Leeds had done enough during the game to come away with the victory.

“It’s true it was a tight match,” he said.

“It was difficult for us to create danger in the first half. In the second half we were better.

“We did enough to deserve the win. The subs of Costa and Alioski were positive.

“Even if it was a tight match we came into the match, but they have good players with impact and they are able to create danger even without control.”
