Hotmail forever changed the way we communicate when it introduced the concept of free email access in 1996. Hotmail was recently integrated into Microsoft’s Outlook.com service, giving the interface an improved new look. Although people can no longer create new Hotmail accounts, they can continue to use the email service.

How to sign in to Hotmail:

Hotmail email users can either visit www.hotmail.com or www.outlook.com.

Both URLs will direct users to the same screen.

Users can then enter Hotmail login details here, as can those with an Outlook.com account.

Some users have, however, complained they cannot access their old Hotmail accounts via Outlook.com.

If this happens then you should sign up for a Microsoft Outlook account via www.outlook.com.

How to create an Outlook.com account:

It became no longer possible to create a new Hotmail account since it integrated with Outlook.com

To create an Outlook email account you first need to create a Microsoft account.

Visit www.login.live.com and click Create New Account.

Entering some general personal information is required to complete this stage in the process.

Simply enter your name, date of birth, location and desired username.

Users can choose to log in via a new email address or a phone number to confirm the new account.

Users must next create a “strong” password to protect your account.

A password will be robust only when it features a mixture of capital and lowercase letters, numbers and special characters (!@£$%^&).

Users will next test their new username and password.

Once compete, users can begin adding contacts and using the email services.

Outlook.com’s interface has a similar style to its desktop incarnation, with folders and organisational tools on the left, the contents of the current folder in the centre, and a preview pane on the right.

The toolbar gives provides instant access to frequently used features, and right clicking folders or messages gives users shows users other intuitive options.

The service automatically detects important emails and places them in a dedicated Inbox, keeping distractions to a minimum.

Important events can easily be added to your calendar, an these dates can be shared with other Outlook.com or Office 365 users with the click of a you mouse.

The service also offers excellent attachment support, including the ability to share OneDrive files as copies or links.

Users can also attach files directly from your Google Drive and Dropbox, while an enormous 15GB mailbox allows the storage of files from other people.

Microsoft also offers app-based integrations to take the service further.

This includes built-in Skype support via the beta, and apps give you easier access to Evernote, PayPal, GIPHY, Yelp, Uber and more.

Upgrading to Office 365 gets you an ad-free inbox, 50GB mail storage and a vast 1TB of OneDrive storage.

This costs £5 ($7) per month on the single user Office 365 Personal plan, or users can pay £52 ($70) per year.
