Gary Rhodes how did he die: Cause of death as tragedy strikes 59-year-old TV chef

A family statement obtained by The Sun reads: “The Rhodes family are deeply saddened to announce the passing of beloved husband, father and brother, Gary Rhodes OBE.

“Gary passed away last evening at the age of 59, with his beloved wife Jennie by his side.

“The family would like to thank everyone for their support and ask for privacy during this time.”

A source also told the publication that his death has come as “a shock” to his loved ones.

They said: “I believe it’s come as a shock. He had been living and working out there recently and was enjoying life.

“Things were great. He was happy and life was good. What’s happened is devastating for his family.

“He’s married with two children and the death has hit them hard.”

Express.co.uk has contacted a represenative for Gary for comment. 

It is unclear if Gary had been suffering with any health issues.

The TV star had previously spoke out about the time he almost died when he was 19 after a blood clot was found on his brain. 

He told Good Housekeeping Magazine: “When I was 19, I almost died from a blood clot on my brain after I ran into the road on a boys’ night out and was hit by a Transit van.

“Having come so close to death means I never take my health for granted.”

In the same interview, the MasterChef star admitted he was concious about the way he looks.

He added: “As I’ve got older my body has become more important to me.

“I exercise six days a week in my gym at home. I’ll do half an hour of exercise each morning before I leave for work – it sets me up for the day – and two hours at the weekend.”

The chef has appeared on a number of television shows including MasterChef and Hell’s Kitchen.

He also showcased his dance moves on BBC show Strictly Come Dancing back in 2008.

Following the news of his tragic death, many stars in the showbiz world and fans flocked to Twitter to pay a tribute.

Gordon Ramsay shared a picture of the chef with the caption: “We lost a fantastic chef today in Gary Rhodes.

“He was a chef who put British Cuisine on the map. Sending all the love and prayers to your wife and kids. You’ll be missed Gx.”
