Winds of Winter: George RR Martin reaffirms writing schedule ‘Some fans think I'm RETIRED’

Martin then went through his current writing schedule, joking that some fans think he’s retired presumably because he’s taking so long.

The author said: “Right now I have the two remaining books in A Song of Ice and Fire to finish.

“I think some of my fans already think I’m retired.

“So I have to finish The Winds of Winter, A Dream of Spring.”

Martin took the interview in early November and what he said sounds just like the plan he revealed a couple of months ago.

The author plans to finish The Winds of Winter and then start the final book in A Song of Ice and Fire, A Dream of Spring with a Dunk & Egg short story in between both of them.

After those four projects, he’ll set about on penning the second volume of Fire and Blood, his 300-year history of House Targaryen.

Of course, it’s possible this could all change considering the Game of Thrones prequel series House of the Dragon that’s in development.

The author has said on his blog that he plans to maybe write some episodes of House of the Dragon, which is based on Fire and Blood.

However, he’s confirmed he won’t do that until after he’s finished The Winds of Winter.

The only worry is if Martin gets sidetracked by writing for TV and then maybe prioritises Fire and Blood Volume 2 over A Dream of Spring to provide more source material for House of the Dragon.

Fingers crossed he sticks to his current writing schedule and gets A Song of Ice and Fire done.
