Ruth Langsford clashes with Coleen Nolan in holding hands debate: 'You'd be dead to me'

Ruth Langsford, 59, was joined by Coleen Nolan, 54, Saira Khan, 49, and Jane Moore, 57, to host today’s edition of Loose Women. Among the topical debates, the panel discussed how they would feel if there spouse was caught holding hands with another person and not them. With the ladies offering strong views on the matter, it wasn’t long before a clash ensued.

The debate arose following American pop star Justin Timberlake, 38, being pictured holding hands with Alisa Wainwright, 30, at a New Orleans bar.

Speculation has been rife, but rumours have been shut down by representatives of the actor who has been married to Jessica Biel, 37, since 2012.

Discussing the headlines, the panel offered their different views on the matter, with Coleen being the only presenter to believe the reports could be an overreaction.

As the debate unravelled, the former clashed with several of her co-hosts, which led the This Morning star to give her a jokey warning.

After hearing the panel’s perspectives on holding hands with a stranger, Coleen exclaimed: “Oh for god’s sake.

“You’re just reading too [much into it]. Do you know what it might have been?

“He might have been sitting there going, ‘I can’t stand it. I miss Jessica so much’.

“And she’s gone, ‘You’ll be with her soon’,” she continued to which Saira disagreed as she replied: “No, she’s gone, ‘I feel for you,’ as she intimated holding hands with another person in a romantic way.

“Oh you’re just jealous, cynical women,” Coleen hit back, before asking the panel: “Other than your husbands, you’ve never held another man’s hand?”

As her co-hosts explained there was certain ways of holding hands which displayed more intimacy, the former turned to Ruth and said: “So, if I was walking down the street, and we were crossing the road and Eamonn took my hand, would you be upset?”

“No, there’s a difference,” the This Morning star remarked.

“Say you were walking across the street and Eamonn said, ‘Quick Coleen, there’s a car coming’,” she explained before taking her fellow panelist’s hand to show an innocent way of holding hands.

However, Ruth continued: “But, if he was doing this with you,” as she took Coleen’s hand more intimately, before adding: “Sitting in a bar, under the table, you’d be dead to me,” she joked.

The moment was just for laughs but the former pop star did hold a very different view to the rest of the panel.

Explaining her stance, Jane said earlier in the debate: “I think it’s very intimate. I think when you’re crossing the show, you’re more likely to [lock arms] with somebody you’re not intimate with.

“Hand holding for me is really intimate.”

Saira added: “You do not do that if you’re a married man or a married woman. You just don’t.

“That under the table with a bit of hand stroke, what’s going on there? You don’t do that with your mates.”

“Even the word entwined, you’d read that in romantic novel,” Ruth commented as the former continued to voice her views.

“It’s intimate and it’s not allowed if you’re married, I don’t think.”

Jane responded: “No, I wouldn’t be pleased at all because for me, it’s a level of intimacy.”

Loose Women airs weekdays at 12.30pm on ITV.
