Pokemon Sword and Shield Gigantamax: How to get wild Gigantamax Pokemon in Galar

The Gigantamax form is the newest addition to the Pokemon franchise and is a BIG part of the fun in Sword and Shield.

For those that don’t know what it is, Gigantamaxing allows certain Pokémon to take on a colossal appearance and gain the ability to use a unique G-Max Move.

There’s a couple of different ways to get Gigantamax Pokemon in Sword and Shield, and it’s even easier for Let’s Go Pikachu and Eevee owners.

If you’ve played either of these games, you can receive a special Gigantamax Pikachu or Gigantamax Eevee in Pokémon Sword and Pokémon Shield by having save data from those games.

And you’ll be able to receive the special Pikachu or Eevee at the Wild Area Station in the game.

It should be noted that this occurs after about two hours of gameplay, so it’s worth exploring Sword and Shield for a while.

Game Freak is also making it easier to catch certain types for a limited period. At the moment, it’s easier to find Butterfrees with the particular form.

And if you’re looking to catch Gigantamax Pokemon in the wild, Game Freak has offered a short guide on the subject.

The development team notes that Pokemon Dens found on the map that are emitting a purple pillar of light are your best bet.

They don’t guarantee the Pokemon of your dreams, but it does boost the odds of catching a rare Pokemon.

However, Gym Badges are also key to encountering Gigantamax Pokemon, with Game Freak revealing this week:

“Once you acquire more Gym Badges, you’ll start to see dens emitting strong purple pillars of light. Dens emitting this kind of light are more likely to house rare Pokémon.

“If you’re really lucky, you might even encounter a Pokémon with the Gigantamax Factor in a five-star Max Raid Battle after you’ve earned the Dragon Badge late in your adventure.

“If you find a den that isn’t active, you can activate it by throwing a valuable Wishing Piece in, which you can purchase or find in the Wild Area.

“This will allow you to trigger a Max Raid Battle, and if you’re really lucky, you may even attract a wild Gigantamax Pokémon when using a Wishing Piece.

“You can also activate a bunch of dens at once by completing Max Raid Battles at all active Pokémon Dens in the Wild Area.

“When you do, a new set of dens will light up, and at least one should have a strong pillar of light. This way, you’ll never get stuck waiting until the next day for more battles!”

It should be noted that five-star level Raid Battles only become available after you’ve obtained the Dragon Badge.

Another factor that Pokemon Trainers have discovered is that if the Pokemon Den silhouette is different from usual, you can expect a rare Pokemon battle encounter.

It has also been confirmed that you can find hidden items around the Wild Area on repeat visits.

While the items you can see on the ground in Poké Balls appear only once, you can find hidden items in the Wild Area again and again.

And that’s great news for Nintendo Switch gamers just starting their adventures in the Galar region.
