Ant and Dec: I’m A Celebrity hosts respond to backlash as fans slam ‘impossible’ trial

Last night, I’m A Celebrity… Get Me Out Of Here! stars took part in a Love Island-themed group Bushtucker trial in a bid to win roast dinners. But, fans were left unimpressed with the amount of time James Haskell, 34, and Roman Kemp, 26, had to complete their challenge.

In a joint task, James was challenged to unscrew three stars which were placed in separate boxes of creepy crawlies.

The rugby star was then tasked to pass them on to his campmate Roman to attach them in his containers on the other side.

In the first part of the challenge, James struggled with getting the first star due to a large crab getting in the way.

After eventually letting two stars loose, he passed them on to Roman to put in the containers, but they ran out of time.

Elsewhere, James Haskell’s wife clarified how her husband was still liking her social media posts despite being away from her in the jungle.

In a Q&A on Instagram, the fan asked Chloe: “How comes James has liked all your posts when he’s in the jungle?”

The fitness fanatic responded to the Instagram user, writing: “[Crying with laughter emojis] Because we share the same agent and he knows to keep me in likes.”

Chloe, the daughter of TV presenters Richard and Judy, went on to discuss her husband’s lack of calories in the jungle.

An ITV viewer asked: “Is James really surviving on that little good or do you reckon they sneak extra stuff in?”

She replied: “Nope, that’s it. Pretty scary for me to watch given my background in nutrition, his physique and being a feeder.”

Chloe’s comment comes after her spouse told Extra Camp hosts Joel Dommett and Emily Atack that he felt like he is “wasting away” on the show.

During his jungle stint, the sportsman has gone from a diet of 4000 calories a day to just around just 700 on the camp’s basic diet of rice and beans.

The campmates also receive an animal-based meal depending on stars won in the challenges.

He said: “I never thought I would look at a menu and choose crocodile feet. We’re still only getting 700 calories per day.

“We’re slowly wasting away, but wasting away with dignity!”

He added of the situation: “We’re literally scraping the barrel of discovering different ways of cooking rice and beans and trying to add some flavour.”

I’m A Celebrity… Get Me Out Of Here! continues tonight at 9pm on ITV.
