Ex-Tottenham boss Mauricio Pochettino is said to be ‘devastated’ by his sacking and surprised that Jose Mourinho was appointed so quickly by chairman Daniel Levy.
Pochettino was relieved of his duties as Spurs manager on Tuesday and was replaced by Mourinho, who took charge of his first Tottenham game on Saturday, just 11 hours later.
The sacking sent shockwaves throughout the Premier League, particularly because Pochettino led Spurs to the Champions League final in June.
But this season, results had turned and rumours began to swirl that Pochettino’s time at Tottenham was coming to an end.
And according to the Daily Star, after his axing on Tuesday, Pochettino was left ‘heartbroken’ and he also felt surprised that Mourinho replaced him so quickly.
The report also states that Pochettino never expected to be sacked midway through the season, especially after his European heroics last season.
Bayern Munich are said to be interested in the Argentine’s signature, having sacked Niko Kovac last month.
But Pochettino is not rushing into a job any time soon, and is instead likely to wait until the end of the season.
Mourinho, meanwhile, got off to a winning start to life with the north London club.
Tottenham overcame West Ham with relative ease on Saturday, despite the close 3-2 scoreline.
Son Heung-min, Lucas Moura and Harry Kane put Spurs 3-0 up at the London Stadium before Michail Antonio and Angelo Ogbonna pulled two late goals back.
One player who was impressive was Dele Alli, who Mourinho had called on earlier in the week to return to his former self and produce his usual brilliant form.
Mourinho said after the game: ”Dele was like the team – brilliant for 65 minutes and then paid the price of the time, so he went a little bit down [in terms of performance].
“It was the old Dele Alli, the Dele of a couple of years ago, that impressed not just England but the world. He did what I wanted him to do after two days of work.”
