Gary Neville receives abuse from fans at Bramall Lane before Sheffield United vs Man Utd

Gary Neville claims he was abused by supporters before Manchester United’s visit to Sheffield United on Sunday.

United legend Neville was early to Bramall Lane as he was working on the match for Sky Sports.

And in an interview with touchline reporter Geoff Shreeves, he revealed he was targeted by some supporters outside the stadium.

“I’ve already been abused about five times outside this ground so it’s going to be hostile as well,” Neville said.

Shreeves joked: “That was just by the staff.”

To which Neville replied: “Yeah it was yeah.”

The visitors headed into the match a point behind the hosts, with both sides knowing victory would send them fifth in the Premier League table.

And Neville was expecting a tough encounter for his old side.

“It definitely will be [a tough game for United],” he added.

“I think it’s incredible that Sheffield United, with very much the same team as last season almost, have performed the way they have in the way in which they have. They’re great defensively.

“Man United have been poor away from home, when they concede first they really struggle which tells you where they’re at in terms of their maturity or lack of it as a team.

“Manchester United need to score first today to have any chance. I think if they get in front the atmosphere will be incredible.”

Gary Neville admits he has been impressed by promoted outfit Sheffield United so far this season.

He said of Chris Wilder’s side: “I always like it when managers make players better, when they have them organised, when they achieve more than they should.

“You can always point towards money and transfer markets and things like that, and I know obviously there has been some more spent, but I also think that the job that he’s done is a coaching job, it’s getting players to be better, it’s exciting. I like what he’s done.”
