Rafael Nadal caught in furious exchange with umpire during dramatic Davis Cup win over GB

Tensions were high during the winner-takes-all doubles match between Spain and Great Britain, with Rafael Nadal letting his emotions get the better of him at one stage.

Kyle Edmund had given Great Britain a 1-0 lead on Saturday before Nadal levelled the tie up with a storming victory over Dan Evans.

It was all on the line in the final doubles match, with Nadal pairing up with Feliciano Lopez to take on Jamie Murray and Neal Skupski.

Neither pair gave anything up in the first set, with Spain coming out on top in the tiebreak to take an early lead.

Still, Murray and Skupski more than matched their opponents in the second set.

It followed the same sequence as the first, with both pairs going hammer and tongue to find a breakthrough to no avail, with another tiebreak to decide.

The Madrid crowd were growing in noise as they anticipated a Spain win, with emotions riding high also on court.

And at one stage, with the tiebreak at 2-2, the Spanish team jumped in fury at not having their challenge accepted by the umpire.

Lopez could be seen putting his hand up in the air immediately after Great Britain had won the point, but Nadal and the Spanish team suddenly rushed towards the umpire chair in sheer frustration after the point was awarded to Murray and Skupski.

Nadal in particular was screaming and waving his arms about in protest.

The world No 1 could be heard shouting at the officials behind the umpire: “Faster? Impossible.”

Despite his protests, the umpire stuck with her decision to award Great Britain the point.

That appeared to fire Nadal and the Spanish crowd up, although Murray and Skupski did have opportunities to tie the match up.

They had four set point chances, with the Spanish duo knocking back each attempt.

And Spain made no mistake on their second match point, with Nadal immediately jumping into the arms of Lopez to spark wild celebrations
