Christopher Walken Says Will Ferrell Ruined His Life With The Infamous SNL More Cowbell Skit

Will Ferrell appeared on The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon and while on the program he spoke about the infamous Saturday Night Live (SNL) skit “More Cowbell.” According to Will Ferrell, Christopher Walken, who starred in the skit as music producer Bruce Dickinson, told Will Ferrell that he ruined his life with that skit because he can’t go anywhere without people talking about it. Jimmy Fallon was also in the skit as he portrayed Blue Oyster Cult member Albert Bouchard.

“More Cowbell” is about the Blue Oyster Cult song “Don’t Fear The Reaper” and the cowbell that is played at the intro of the song.

Will Ferrell co-wrote the skit with writer Donnell Campbell. “More Cowbell” aired on April 8, 2000, and continues to be one of Saturday Night Live’s most popular skits.

Will Ferrell portrayed a fictitious member of the band named Gene Frenkle whose job was to play the cowbell.

Will Ferrell stated the following.

“He told me, ‘You know, you’ve ruined my life. People during the curtain call bring cowbells and ring them. The other day I went for an Italian food lunch and the waiter asked if I wanted more cowbell with my pasta bolognese.’”
