Man Utd warned over January transfer bid for Leicester star James Maddison

Manchester United will be unable to sign Leicester midfielder James Maddison in January, but could make a move next summer.

That’s the opinion of Chelsea icon Craig Burley.

United are reportedly keeping tabs on Maddison, as the star has emerged as one of England’s best prospects.

This season, he has provided four goals and two assists in the Premier League.

The 22-year-old has played a vital role in Leicester’s rise to the summit of the table, with the Foxes currently sat second in the league.

Leicester are reportedly in negotiations with Maddison over an extension to his contract.

He still has just under four years remaining on his current deal, but the Foxes are prepared to double his £50,0000=per-week wages.

And Burley believes there is no chance of Leicester letting the attacking playmaker leave before next summer at the earliest.

“Of course Manchester United would interest him,” he said on ESPN FC.

”And also, I think Manchester United are interested in him.

“Not before the end of the season, because we don’t know what Leicester will do this season.

“It could be a great season for Leicester City, and he’s a big part of that.

“United did want [Youri] Tielemans, and Leicester managed to coax him into coming there, so you’re talking about trying to convince a guy who is going to get an offer from Man Utd.

“If they sold him in January, Brendan Rodgers may as well pack his bags and go, I don’t think it’ll happen there.

“But I think there’s potential for it to next January.”
