Climate change: NASA warns rising seas are 'accelerating' – Will trigger storms and floods

The oceans help stabilised the Earth’s climate by absorbing up to 90 percent of the heat trapped by the atmosphere.

But the rise in greenhouse gases like carbon dioxide (CO2) means more heat is being trapped on the planet.

The oceans, in turn, absorb more and more of that heat, which can have a devastating impact on the planet’s health.

One of the impacts, according to NASA, is the increased likelihood of storms and damage to marine wildlife.

Dr Willis said: “Global sea level rise is one of the most expensive and disruptive impacts of climate change that there is.
