Jose Mourinho has hinted that he will sell the likes of Christian Eriksen and other Tottenham players that want out of the club.
Mourinho replaced Mauricio Pochettino in the early hours of the morning as Daniel Levy wasted no time to get his new manager in.
Tottenham sit 14th in the Premier League and Pochettino was sacked after a horror run that has seen them fail to win any of their last five league games.
Part of the problem at Tottenham has been the uncertainty around key players with Eriksen, Jan Vertonghen and Christian Eriksen all out of contract in the summer.
And Mourinho will have some tough decisions to make regarding the trio and others who have been linked with moves away like Danny Rose.
But speaking last month Mourinho suggested he would move players out who don’t want to be at his club.
Asked last month how he would have addressed the situation regarding Tottenham’s players Mourinho said: “I don’t like to keep players that don’t want to stay at the club.
“I think it is always really difficult. I am not thinking about the economical perspective, I mean from a motivational point of view.
“We sold Robben to Real Madrid, Chelsea didn’t want to or need the money. But he didn’t want to be there and wanted to go.
“There are some moments where motivation affects performance and it is difficult to keep players happy when they have other dreams.”
Mourinho will now have the chance to put his money where his mouth is in January as he looks to clear the decks and start fresh.
The Portuguese will be hoping for a better run at it than Manchester United after being sacked last December.
Graeme Souness has backed Mourinho to turn things around at Tottenham and use the anger he’s built up from failing at United to kick on at Tottenham.
“Deep inside he is an angry and frustrated man with the way it turned out for him at United, Spurs will reap the benefit of that,” Souness told Sky Sports News.
“Will they win the league this year? No. But they will be far more difficult to play against.
“He talks common sense at that is basically what football is about. Off-camera he is jovially funny, he is engaging, extremely knowledgeable and desperate to get back into football.
“He will know where he could have done better and decisions he made he wishes he hadn’t made. Spurs will reap the benefit of that big time.”
