Hillary Clinton blasted over decision to exclude Thatcher from latest 'Gutsy Women' book

The wife of former Tory MP Neil Hamilton told ITV Good Morning Britain that Margaret Thatcher “turner the UK around” and should have been in Chelsea and Hillary Clinton’s book. Mrs Hamilton blasted the former US State Secretary and wondered: “What planet is she living on?” She said: “It’s Hillary Clinton’s book so she is entitled to do what she likes with it, fine.

“But I think to exclude Margaret Thatcher – and it’s a book of the world, obviously it’s not just Great Britain – to exclude Thatcher I think actually says more about Hillary.

“I think it’s extremely ungracious of her.

“Because to say that Margaret Thatcher didn’t knock down barriers, didn’t make a positive difference.

“What planet is she living on? She walked through an amazing glass ceiling, inspired a whole generation, she turned the country around!”

Mrs Clinton denied the ‘Iron Lady’ deserves a place on her list of history’s “gutsiest women” as her UK book tour took its latest twist.

The former US presidential candidate, who was defeated by Donald Trump in the 2016 US Presidential election, questioned Mrs Thatcher’s legacy while promoting ‘The Book Of Gutsy Women: Favourite Stories of Courage and Resilience’, which she co-wrote with daughter Chelsea.

During an interview BBC Radio 5 on Tuesday, host Emma Barnett quizzed the former First Lady over Mrs Thatcher’s omission, and said it was “quite striking” Britain’s first Female Prime Minister and longest-serving leader of the 20th century wasn’t included.

Ms Barnett said she thought the late former Conservative Party leader fitted the description of a “gutsy women, even if you didn’t like her”.

Mrs Clinton said: “I thought she was incredibly strong – I remember taking chelsea to see her in Parliament when she was Prime Minister.

“I had a lot of understanding of what it took and I thought it was clever of her to mould herself to be more acceptable, everything from hairstyle to clothing style and speaking style.

“But on the criteria that we were really looking at – what were the positive differences, the changes that this person made that really opened doors to more. That really wasn’t that apparent.

“Her view of politics and dismissal of the idea of community really struck me as being out of step over where we need to go and what kind of future we want for our good friends here in the UK.”
