Cruise: Dad of two dies in devastating cruise accident

Brian Rice, from Indiana, fell from a balcony on the ninth deck of the Carnival Horizon cruise ship last Friday.

He fell four floors, landing on the fifth-floor deck below.

His shocked wife rushed down all four-level to try and aid her husband after the fall.

Passengers report comforting the woman at the scene and trying to keep her from the traumatic sight.

According to USA TODAY the Miami-Dade Police Department confirmed the man’s identity and reported that the ship’s medical staff attended to him before he died.

Carnival spokesman Vance Gulliksen told USA TODAY the cruise line is cooperating with the standard law enforcement investigation. Gulliksen said the line is providing support and that “our thoughts and prayers are with the guest’s family.”

The 3,954-passenger ship had been on a six-day, round-trip in the Western Caribbean spanning Jamaica, the Cayman Islands and Mexico.
