Car insurance policies are generally different from each other and motorists need to thoroughly check the small print to make sure they don’t accidentally break a rule. A policy could even be invalidated by working a night shift if you have not stated this on your initial application.
This is because car insurance prices are determined by where a vehicle is parked overnight and lying about this could see insurance companies refuse payouts.
If you regularly work night shifts at a company this needs to be stated on an insurance application in case of damage when you are away.
A vehicle is deemed to be safe if it is parked on a driveway and costs will reduce if motorists state it is away from harm.
However, leaving a vehicle parked on the side of a kerb or pavement is high risk and insurance providers will increase costs due to the risk of criminals or getting caught up in road accidents.

Graeme Trudgill from the British Insurance Brokers Association said: “its all about risk-based pricing, If the car is parked in a garage overnight and locked away, your risk of theft in a central city area is much reduced.
“If it’s a car that’s attractive to thieves, having it off-street in a garage will be seen as something worthy of a good discount.
“You can also get a discount for a vehicle kept on a driveway as it’s less likely to be hit by a passing car – when it’s left on the road it’s most at risk and most on view.”
Parking at work overnight is not an issue for car insurance providers as long as this is stated on a policy when you apply for the cover.

They will often include this as an option or if this is missing motorists should bring this up with their insurer to make sure they are covered.
Giving insurance providers plenty of information about the type of car park available at your place of work is also important.
If this is a locked, private area for staff it will make your car seem safer than if it was just parked on the side of a road with no protection.
Location is also a vital factor in car insurance quotes and can increase or decrease the risk of a vehicle being broken into or damaged.
A study by Which? revealed London was the most expensive place in the UK for car insurance prices with those in the capital paying 50 percent more than the national average.
Northern Ireland was the cheapest location in the UK, followed closely by the Yorkshire and the Humber.
Insurance providers are aware that people are unlikely to have their car parked at the same location on every single evening.
Motorists are allowed to break the terms of their contract and park elsewhere occasionally as long as where they have stated on their application is the place they stay more often than not.
Younger drivers who have a black box telemetry system enclosed cannot lie about where their car is parked overnight as the system can easily detect this.
Those with telemetry installed will then see premiums increase after breaking terms of their policy with costs potentially rising by thousands of pounds.
According to the Mirror, one 17-year-old driver was told his car insurance prices had risen by £3,500 after the system picked him up as having a negative driving score.
This was because he had driven his vehicle late at night away from home because he worked night shifts at supermarket chain Tesco.
Your job is also used to work out how much you are charged for car insurance and motorists need to be as accurate as possible to avoid being caught out.
Young people at school or university can make massive savings on the price of their car insurance by saying they are a student instead of unemployed.
