Jamie Carragher makes Jose Mourinho demand as Sky Sports colleague linked to Tottenham job

Jamie Carragher has got his “fingers crossed” that Jose Mourinho does not become the next Tottenham manager.

Mourinho is the favourite to become the next Spurs boss following the sacking of Mauricio Pochettino.

Pochettino and his coaching staff were relieved of their duties on Tuesday evening with the club languishing in 14th place in the table.

Mourinho has been out of a job since being sacked by Manchester United in December 2018.

In the meantime, the Portuguese has been working as a pundit for Sky Sports alongside the likes of Carragher.

And Carragher selfishly would rather Mourinho stayed with his company, though the Liverpool legend admits there would be more space for him in the studio if Mourinho did take the Spurs job.

“Well I hope not because then he’d be out of our studio then!” Carragher told Sky Sports News.

“There might be a bit of room for me then on Super Sunday, I can’t get in the Super Sunday studio at the moment with Jose and all that, there might be a bit of room for me, squad rotation.

“But no I hope it’s not Jose to be honest, I think he’s been great on Sky and I’ve enjoyed listening to him, so fingers crossed it’s not him.”

Carragher admits, though, that Mourinho is the type of manager Tottenham need.

“But as I said if Jose wants to get back into top-level management, you look at his C.V., people question the Manchester United job, but you have to look at his career as a whole,” he added.

“He’s been hugely successful and that is the one thing Tottenham lack at this moment, no matter how well Pochettino’s done.

“They haven’t quite got over the line in getting a trophy and normally that’s what Jose Mourinho does when he goes to a club.”
