Mr Gobadi said: “Khamenei and other leaders of the regime have publicly acknowledged that the MEK has been the main driving force for the uprising and have ordered the bloody suppression of the uprising.

“So far, at least 200 have been killed, 3000 wounded and thousands more arrested, yet the protests continue across the country.”

On Tuesday, a spokesman for the office of the United Nations high commissioner for human rights, Rupert Coalville, told a news conference in Geneva it was deeply concerned by reported violations of international norms and standards.

Mr Colville said it was extremely difficult to verify the overall number of deaths.
