Hearthstone Battlegrounds release new Heroes and Primalfin Lookout card changes

Hearthstone Battlegrounds has seen a new update released today (November 19) bringing with it new heroes to play as and card changes to check out.

The good news is that today’s Battlegrounds update doesn’t require a new download and won’t need any downtime.

Blizzard has pledged to optimise the game and help make it more accessible on a more diverse range of devices.

Today’s Hearthstone Battlegrounds update is more about bringing new heroes to the game and balancing some of the existing cards available to play.

A message from Blizzard explains: “Bob the Bartender has been hard at work keeping the tavern tidy for Hearthstone’s heroes, and it appears that the news has started to spread.

“Hearthstone Battlegrounds is about to add some extra chaos—and a few Explorers—with a new update coming to the mode today.

“Sindragosa, Elise Starseeker, Brann Bronzebeard, and Sir Finley Mrrgglton are the latest heroes to enter the Battlegrounds.

“Each one comes with a new hero power to give you more options to push toward a first-place finish.”

Sindragosa brings a buff to those minions that have been frozen, while Elise Starseeker provides a new ‘recruitment map’.

According to Blizzard: “The “Recruitment Map” provides recruits a minion from your current tavern tier after upgrading Bob’s Tavern.”

Brann Bronzebeard adds a random minion buff after you play a Battlecry card, while Sir Finley Mrrgglton also provides a random buff after you have sold a card.

While new heroes are being added today, some are also being cut loose for the time being.

This includes King Mukla, Giantfin, Millificent Manastorm and Lich Baz’hial.

The removal of Manastorm might be the switch that changes a few run-throughs, as Mechs have been pretty dominant so far in Battlegrounds.

And by giving Mechs in Bob’s Tavern +1/+1, it made Manastorm an extra useful choice when picking your hero.

Primalfin Lookout has also seen some big card changes today which could help Murlocs become more useful.

Buffs have been made to Murlocs and Demons to help boost their use against Mechs.

This includes the following Hearthstone card changes:

  • Primalfin Lookout – Moved from Tavern Tier 5 to Tavern Tier 4
  • Voidlord – Moved from Tavern Tier 6 to Tavern Tier 5
  • Junkbot – Moved from Tavern Tier 4 to Tavern Tier 5
  • Coldlight Seer – Moved from Tavern Tier 3 to Tavern Tier 2

Explaining the changes, a developer comment reads: “We wanted to buff both Demons and Murlocs, so we moved those minions down a Tavern Tier.

“Junkbot was a bit too strong for Tavern Tier 4 and often made it so mech players never had a good reason to upgrade to Tavern Tier 5. With these changes, we think the minion types are closer together in power level.”

The ranking system in Hearthstone Battlegrounds has also seen a tweak, although it will only affect the top players.

“We’ve made adjustments to the number of points given for first place,” the message from Blizzard adds. “In the original system, you got 240 points for a first-place on your first game, and 24 pts for a first-place on your 150th (or later) game.

“Now, you will get 190 pts for a first-place on your first game and 95 pts for a first-place on your 150th (or later) game.”

Blizzard has also confirmed that the next major Hearthstone Battlegrounds update will be launched in December. And this will probably come part of the new Dragons expansion planned for the base game.
