Call of Duty Modern Warfare update: New patch and COD download plans revealed

Another big Call of Duty Modern Warfare update has been promised to fans; this time focused on fixing challenges and officer progression bugs.

The news was confirmed by COD Community Managers, who have yet to give a full release date.

All we know, for now, is that a new Call of Duty update is being tested and is scheduled for launch this week.

The good news is that this would follow the pattern last week, which saw the big Modern Warfare 1.08 patch go live.

That happened very early in the morning and seemed to suggest that developers Infinity Ward would be launching stuff whenever it is ready.

A message from the COD Community team adds: “Working a patch that includes fixes for a good handful of challenges and officer progression bugs.

“No ETA on when it’ll go live, but it’s currently being tested.”

This is currently the only information we have concerning what will be included in the new update when it goes live.

It will likely be Call of Duty Modern Warfare update 1.09 and be made available to download on all platforms.

The most recent patch release was made especially for the PC platform and was focused on adding fixes for cutscene stuttering and hitching.

The next Call of Duty update sounds like it will be available to download on PS4, Xbox One and PC.

Activision has already revealed some of their other big plans for updating Modern Warfare in 2019 and beyond.

Unlike in past years, new maps and modes will be launched as free downloads and won’t be released as paid DLC.

Instead, Modern Warfare is being supported by a new Battle Pass system, which is replacing how loot boxes worked in previous games.

Speaking about one of the first free map updates to arrive in 2019 – including Shoot House – Infinity Ward’s Geoff Smith provided some insight into the level design.

“A map setting or art design can make it feel unique, memorable, and awesome,” Smith adds.

“Other times, the unique gameplay scenarios, engagements, and combat that can occur on the map is the differentiator.

“Shoot House fills both of those as a training facility and layout that promotes fast-paced gameplay with frequent engagements.

“Because of our new game engine, we are able to create very realistic environments for all our maps and Campaign and Special Ops missions.

“With that level of high-fidelity, our focus was on allowing players visibility in a hyper-real setting.

“The setting of Shoot House allows for a really clean visual look for the environment which increases visibility and therefore heightens pace and engagements which is the experience we wanted to bring to the community with Shoot House.”

The next Call of Duty Modern Warfare update isn’t expected to include new content for the game.

However, Infinity Ward will be releasing official patch notes, which confirm all the major changes made to the game.
