Fresno mass shooting: Ten people shot dead during football garden party in California

Local police have described the shooting as a “mass casualty shooting”. Early reports suggest that the “suspected shooters” snuck into the back garden where the gathering was taking place and opened fire on a crowd of people. Police were made aware of the shooting at around 6pm local time.

Gunshot victims were rushed to a local hospital called the Community Regional Medical Centre, according to NBC.

Lieutenant Bill Dooley told local newspaper The Fresno Bee that the suspects ran from the scene after they had opened fire.

He added: “What we do know is that this was a gathering, a family and friend gathering in the backyard.

“Everyone was watching football this evening when unknown suspects approached the residence, snuck into the backyard and opened fire.

“Officers arrived on scene – what we found were several individuals deceased in the backyard.”

Three people who were mowed down in the garden were already dead when police entered the scene.

The other victim died in hospital, according to CBS News.

No one has been arrested.
