Cruise: Expert reveals why you should always pack this unlikely item for cruise holidays

Cruise ship holidays see guests spending their trip aboard a floating hotel and venturing ashore for various excursions at different ports of call. As with any trip, cruises require careful planning when it comes to packing luggage. Some cruise holidays can be fairly long so you’ll need to make sure you take all the necessities.

Stewart advised those heading on a cruise to take probiotics – before the trip and during. Probiotics may improve digestive health, heart health and immune function, to name just a few.

“Many of us take vitamin, mineral and digestive supplements when we’re at home,” he wrote.

“Should you fall into this category, don’t forget to pack a supply with you.

“We suggest taking a probiotic to help regulate your digestion while onboard and travelling.

DON’T MISS

“When you’re eating five or six square meals of all sorts of ethnic cuisine, you’re bound to need some help in the digestion department.

“If you’re not currently taking a probiotic, introduce one a week or so before your trip so as to better acclimate your digestive.”

Another medicinal item you should consider packing is something to combat motion sickness if you fear you might suffer.

“Although cruise ships are designed to be very stable, ship motion cannot be totally eliminated especially during choppy seas,” said Stewart.

“For ease of use, pack your daily medication and vitamins in a seven-day medicine container,” Stewart recommended.

“Although the airlines prefer seeing your meds in their original bottles, pacing your daily allotment into a week-long plastic storage container makes life easier.

“Also keep your supply of essential meds with you in your carry on bag.

“Pack a few extras in your checked luggage in case your departure home is delayed.”
