Stefanos Tsitsipas given Roger Federer prediction after winning ATP Finals title

Stefanos Tsitsipas has been tipped to become the most popular tennis player in the world by Daniela Hantuchova.

The Greek star beat Domninic Thiem to win the ATP Finals title on Sunday night and he was heavily backed by the London crowd at the O2 Arena.

Only Roger Federer has been given a louder reception from the spectators at the ATP Finals this week.

The 20-time Grand Slam winner is universally loved all over the world because of his grace and charisma.

And Hantuchova thinks Tsitsipas will become as equally cherished in years to come.

“Energy-wise in the last few moments you could hear everybody screaming Stefanos’ name,” Hantuchova told Amazon Prime.

“This is where we are, we are witnessing something incredibly special.

“In a few years time he might be getting the same ovation as Roger Federer is getting whichever arena he enters in the world.

“People are starting to feel the same about Stefanos because there is something special about this guy.”

Tsitsipas needed two tiebreaks to beat Thiem in the final and he paid tribute to the Austrian after lifting the trophy.

“I would like to start by congratulating Dominic. You are an inspiration,” Tsitsipas said.

“It is really magnificent the final we put out on centre court. I think it makes our sport great. Tennis is all about this.

“Congratulations for your successful year.

“It has been a roller coaster. Thanks to my team, my agents, my father.

“This tournament was just unbelievable. You made is so emotional. I have never received so much support on a stage like that.

“I owe it all to you, most of it to you, the atmosphere this week was unbelievable. It was nice to be competing on this court.”
